In Another Life: Zhang Chunyang Works Exhibition
Landscape painting is often a portrait of the artist’s spiritual homeland. The landscape serves as a motif in which the artist’s soul can take flight, and in which they may seek out truth in the language of painting. The inner connection between these two threads is externalized as a ray of light, a tree, a body of water. In this exhibition, Zhang Chunyang is no longer painting the white horse of her spiritual redemption, nor do we see the playful child. What remains for the viewer is a more transparent air, waters a deeper blue, and mountains a more verdant green.
This exhibition features forty recent landscape paintings and two site-specific installations reflecting the artist’s recent practice in Dali.
