Realized in collaboration with the Consulate General of France in Chengdu and the Marc Riboud Foundation, La Chine de Marc Riboud presents works from half a century of this influential photographer’s deep relationship with China, dating back to 1957.
The Magnum photographer first traveled to China on the invitation of then-Premier Zhou Enlai, at a time when access to China from the West was virtually impossible, especially for members of the press. This began his long love affair with the country. He traveled to China numerous times over the decades that followed, capturing a nation in the midst of dramatic historic changes.
Over time, Riboud also fostered relationships with leading Chinese photographers, and helped to present their work to the international photography scene.
